[Abstract]:In the early 20th century, the cooperation between western botanists and Naxi people shaped the practice of history in southwest China. This paper is an adaptation of the introduction of the book, combing the analytical framework, historical background and core characters of the book, focusing on Fourier, Locke, two Western botanists and two generations of Naxi villagers represented by Zhao Chengzhang. These two kinds of practitioners have different knowledge background and historical consciousness, and have different understanding ways and experiences about landscape and archives. These differences collide, merge, and complement each other in close cooperation. These interactions not only shaped the colonization and construction of the western history, but also made the imperial frontier become the key place to understand these interactions. These stories ultimately prove that the earth is a social being woven and deposited by people and objects, paper and roads.
