本·瓊森喜劇中的懷疑論思想研究

本·瓊森是英國文藝復(fù)興后期的文學(xué)巨匠,是該時(shí)期最杰出的喜劇作家之一。本文以瓊森的三部代表喜劇——《福爾蓬奈》、《安靜的女人》、《煉金術(shù)士》——為研究對象,結(jié)合其喜劇主張及歷史語境,考察瓊森的懷疑論思想在這三部喜劇中的表現(xiàn)形態(tài)。本文認(rèn)為,在社會發(fā)生巨變、懷疑思潮盛行的時(shí)代,瓊森所受的人文主義教育及其博覽群書的行為催生了他的懷疑論思想,這種哲學(xué)觀質(zhì)疑知識的確定性與可靠性,并由此認(rèn)為,一切知識斷言在被充分證實(shí)之前充其量僅是權(quán)宜之計(jì)而非不容置疑,因此人類應(yīng)該永無止境地探索真理。該思想既是瓊森挑戰(zhàn)權(quán)威、進(jìn)行創(chuàng)新的有力工具,也為他在其三部喜劇中反思法律、性別、“科學(xué)”等重大現(xiàn)實(shí)問題提供了有效的再現(xiàn)手段。本文在考察散落于瓊森作品中的戲劇藝術(shù)見解之后發(fā)現(xiàn):他的喜劇詩學(xué)主張是在融合亞里士多德、西塞羅、賀拉斯等人學(xué)說的基礎(chǔ)上創(chuàng)新而成,也是對當(dāng)時(shí)盛行的浪漫喜劇和鬧劇的質(zhì)疑和挑戰(zhàn),因?yàn)樗J(rèn)為,這些喜劇聚焦婚姻戀愛、訴諸插科打諢的做法偏離了古典原則并為喜劇招來了種種罵名。于瓊森而言,喜劇應(yīng)將現(xiàn)實(shí)中由道德墮落或違反得體所導(dǎo)致的愚蠢與惡習(xí)摹仿得荒誕可笑,從而引發(fā)觀眾的義憤與蔑視之情。他認(rèn)為喜劇最應(yīng)諷刺“虛偽矯飾、裝...
