“救世之弊”與“改頭換面”:李提摩太的《天倫詩(shī)》漢譯

【摘要】:李提摩太1898年對(duì)《天倫詩(shī)》的漢譯,既是其入華之后翻譯觀念的延伸,也是新教傳教士整體上注重文字功用的顯現(xiàn),而且與晚清社會(huì)的變革需求有著具體關(guān)聯(lián)。李提摩太將西方文明納入基督教范疇的觀念與做法,為其西學(xué)譯介、文學(xué)活動(dòng)提供了教義上的合法性,并且將明確的現(xiàn)實(shí)針對(duì)性融入了其中。原詩(shī)所蘊(yùn)含的新古典主義思潮,對(duì)理性、秩序、邏輯等的詮釋,與李提摩太的擇取也正相切合。這一事件成為近代中西文學(xué)交流中的典型案例,將文化的碰撞與對(duì)接、翻譯中的宗教與西學(xué)、譯詩(shī)的文言形式與口語(yǔ)化、內(nèi)容上融入的儒家觀念與世俗意圖等問題,以相互生發(fā)而又集中一處的方式給予了顯現(xiàn)。探究其中存在的矛盾及歷史合理性,有助于深入認(rèn)識(shí)近代中國(guó)西詩(shī)漢譯的過渡性演變與潛在意義。
[Abstract]:Li Timothy's Chinese translation of Tianlun Poetry in 1898 is not only an extension of his concept of translation after entering China, but also a manifestation of the Protestant missionaries' emphasis on the function of writing as a whole, and it is closely related to the demand for social change in the late Qing Dynasty. The concept and practice of bringing western civilization into the category of Christianity provided the doctrine legitimacy for its western translation and literary activities and incorporated the clear reality into it. The neo-classicism thought contained in the original poem, the interpretation of reason, order, logic and so on, is also in line with the choice of Timothy. This event has become a typical case in the literary exchange between China and the West in modern times, which involves the collision and docking of culture, religion and western learning in translation, classical Chinese forms and colloquial translation of poetry, Confucian concepts and secular intentions in content, and so on. To appear in the same way that they grow and concentrate on each other. The exploration of the contradictions and historical rationality is helpful to further understand the transitional evolution and potential significance of the Chinese translation of western Chinese poetry in modern times.
